Roofing
Luxury high end cedar shake roof tiles securely & tightly installed with copper nails, and regularly maintained to be mildew and mould free. Their lovely golden hue has been recently resealed with imported cedar protective oil sealant, ensuring their lifetime to be 125 years + with proper care. A roof of this size and type is over $200,000 BDS to install at this time.
Flooring
Stylish & sturdy neutral shaded engineered hardwood from California forest professionally installed over 3/4" marine ply. Engineered hardwood flooring is made of 100% real wood with no HDF, laminate or other artificial materials. It consists of several cross-stacked strips of wood that are more stable and resistant to humidity and moisture than solid wood floors. Unlike solid wood, engineered hardwood doesn’t shrink or expand due to temperature and humidity changes. It also allows for longer and wider planks--providing not only a more desirable look, but also resistance to the bending or bowing that can occur with longer solid planks. To install this flooring in 2025 would cost close to $80,000 BDS presently
Amenities
Windows & Doors
Every single window in Buddha Cottage was handcrafted in Barbados from pest-resistant cedar wood by TLC Woodworks, Trevor Carter, as was the front gate pair, iconic arched front doors, 2 pairs of arched doors leading to the gallery, and the Japanese sliding doors into the 4th bedroom
The Master Bedroom contains 4 extremely beautiful handcrafted teak wood doors imported into Barbados from Indonesia, having been imported for the failed Four Seasons project in the mid 2000s and purchased through one of the builders working on Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's home that was not completed, like the others. One set of doors contains iconic brass Buddha head hardware and intricate brass hardware locking system.
Lighting Fixtures
All 9 of the outdoor lighting fixtures were handcrafted from pest-resistant cedar wood and copper in the Johnson Art Studio in California. There are also two hand forged copper wall sconces handcrafted from the same artisanal art studio in the living room.
All of the track lighting in the home, as well as the lighting fixtures in the three bedrooms upstairs are all brand new and installed in 2025.
The foyer entrance contains a gold chainlink Himalayan drop down fixture with a super large trendy bulb.
The piece de resistance is the handcrafted oyster shell on forged iron chandelier in the kitchen by Creative Co-op in South Carolina.
